New Horizons is a perfect theme for the start of the year and in this issue there is a wonderful collection of projects to extend yourself by exploring traditional techniques and expanding them in new more contemporary directions. A Hare called Gillian uses Blackwork techniques in splendid vibrant colour combinations mixed with crewel stitches and incorporating metallic threads. The result is impressive. Add to this a 3-D beaded daisy and a beautiful drawn thread technique from Italy. Deruta Sfilato uses low count linen to create a wonderful lacy effect and give a contemporary look to a technique from last century. A gorgeous stumpwork rondel, a charming wool embroidered doorstop, a workbag and two beautiful thread painting designs round out the projects. There is the usual collection of interesting articles offering plenty of reading as well.
